Five retired permanent secretaries, one among them posthumous and five retired directors are among 20 personalities to be presented with different awards as the Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi declares open the Rivers State Civil Service week celebration, today.

Also to be conferred with awards are, Rev. C. T. T. George of the Baptist Church, Rev Friday Osoronmolu of the Assemblies of God Church,  Dr. D. T. Ntonye and 10 serving officers, one also post-humous.

Among the permanent secretaries to be honoured are Mrs Faith Kambi Selema, Chief Festus Ngo Chindo and late Dr Mrs Patience Schulze.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Head of Service, Mrs Esther Anucha has restated the commitment of civil servants in the state towards the implementation of government policies and programmes.

Mrs Anucha who said this during a thanksgiving service to mark the week at the Redemption Ministries, Eastern Bypass Port Harcourt, described the civil service as the vehicle through which government policies and programmes are implemented.

The Head of Service who read the only Bible lesson at the service, said that the theme of this year’s celebration which is “Transformative Leadership in Public Administration and Governance: Creating A Better Life For All,” is in line with the vision of the Governor Amaechi-led administration which is to serve the people.

She used the occasion to thank the General Overseer and pastors of Redemption Ministries for the warm reception accorded members of the civil service.

According to her, the present administration in the state had since 2007 made conscious efforts to transform the state with a view to improving the lives of the people.

In is sermon, Pastor T. H. George said that the transformation of the nation will continue to be a mirage until both the government and the civil service put Christ first.

Pastor George who cited several biblical passages to support his sermon said that putting Christ as their foundation will ensure that government officials and civil servants do those things that will benefit the masses.

The clergyman also stressed the need for civil servants to obey their superiors while those in position of authorities should shun praise singing.
