Akwa Ibom Wins 2 Bouts In Kickboxing … Hopeful Of Medals

Akwa Ibom State contingent at the on-gong Garden City Games yesterday won two bouts in kick-boxing as the event commenced at City Hall, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.

The Akwa Ibom contingent parades 10 kickboxers – seven male and three male. One of them who fought yesterday, Mr Okon Joseph defeated his Adamawa State category in –six category.

Mr Joseph told The Tide at the end of the fight, “it was a great fight, tough, but I applied the techniques my coach taught me to win my opponent. I’ll fight another opponent tomorrow (today).”

Also speaking with The Tide the coach, Akwa Ibom Kickboxing Association said his expectations are very high and he is still going for gold medals in the event, adding “I want all Akwa Ibomites to know that they should be proud of us; we’re hopeful of winning medals – very, very sure of that.”

In his reaction, the secretary Akwa Ibom State Kick-boxing Association, Mr Mike Akpabio commended the Rivers State government for the grand hosting of the event, saying that “Rivers State government has done well but they should have done better if the games were to take place next year because most of the facilities are not really in place”.
