4,458 Freight Forwarders For Induction, Oct
The Federal Government yesterday said the first set of registered freight forwarders totaling 4,458 would be inducted in October.
Mr Mike Jukwe, the Registrar of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN), disclosed this to newsmen in Abuja .
Jukwe noted that the induction would be conducted at the first National Freight Forwarders’ Conference in October.
“The first registered freight forwarders in Nigeria will be inducted at the first national conference of freight forwarders to be held in October, 2011 and at the ceremony, they will be given licence to operate anywhere.’’
He said the induction course would expose them to the CRFFN Act, Customs clearing procedures and the role of the CRFFN, among others.
“Registered members will be given the code of professional conduct within which to operate, the associations that have been accredited will also receive the operating guidelines.
“Is not going to be business as usual, we are now regulating, they will be regulated to make sure they meet international standard and ensure best practices in their dealings because the profession is international.”
He added that they would be conferred with the title “Registered Freight Forwarder (RFF)” with some materials which included certificates and identity cards for proper identification, both within and outside the country.
Jukwe, however, described the President of the Federation as the grand patron of Freight Forwarders by the Council’s regulation, saying President Goodluck Jonathan would also receive the Grand Patron of Freight Forwarders (GPFF) award at the occasion.
He added that patronship of freight forwarders would be conferred on Chairmen of Senate and House Committees on Marine Transport as well as Ministers of Transport, Aviation and Finance.
