18 Commissioners Assume Duties In Abia
The 18 nominees recently confirmed as commissioners by the Abia House of Assembly have been sworn into office in Umuahia.
Five former commissioners returned to their offices which they vacated in June, while one was redeployed.
The former commissioners sworn in are Chief Umeh Kalu, Ministry of Justice; Chief Emma Nwabuko, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and Dr Okechukwu Ogah, Health.
Others are Chief Nick Eleri, Finance; Mr Solomon Ogunji, Environment and Mr Solomon Adaelu, Poverty Alleviation and Cooperatives.
The new comers include Mr Don Ubani, Information; Chief Okezie Orji, Housing; Chief Ike Onyenweaku, Agriculture; Mr Sam Onuigbo, Lands and Survey and Mr Kingsley Mgbeahuru, Works.
Others are Mrs Obiageli Phillips, Education; Mr Mathew Ochiobi, Sports; Mrs Nene Nwuzor, Transport; Chief Sampson Orji, Commerce and Industry; Mr Charles Nwator, Science and Technology.
The rest are Mr Nkoro Akujobi, Petroleum and Mr Vigilus Nwankwo, Public Utility.
Governor Theodore Orji directed them to submit their programmes of action and contribute to their ministries within 14 days.
“You have been chosen to assist in the task of delivering our electoral promises and reshape Abia.
“We listened to the yearnings of the people. Your continued stay or exit from office will depend on our evaluation of your contributions.”
Responding, Kalu (Justice) said they were quite aware of the enormous task ahead of them, “especially now that we are at the last lap of the Governor’s term in office”.
“We shall strive to make the difference and raise the bar towards the development of our dear state.”
