17th NSF: NSC Advised Not To Abandon Talents
The Rivers State Sports Council has appeal to National Sports Commission (NSC) not to abandon talents discovered at 17th National Sports Festival.
The council’s Public Relation Officers, Barisi Wifa, made the appeal in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt on what next for the talents discovered at the games.
Wifa said that the talents, if groomed well, would excel in national and international competitions.
He also commended the hosts and organisers of the games, saying that they raised the standard of the sports fiesta tagged “ Garden City Games”. 2011.
There were significant improvements in infrastructure, logistics and security during the Garden City Games and I feel that should be copied by future organisers. Nigeria has come of age in sports; government, corporate organisations, groups and individuals should embrace sports as a veritable means of development,” Wifa said. He noted that the state benefited from hosting because it gave economic and socio-cultural activities a boost, adding that it rekindled in many youths the zeal to embrace sports.
Wifa lauded Team Rivers for winning the festival, saying that the victory was the result of hard work and dedication to duty.
Team Rivers has made the state proud; this is a good omen in the history of sports in the state,” he said.
It would be recalled that Rivers won the games with 135 gold, 79 silver and 85 bronze medals.
