Volunteers Urged To Be Good Ambassadors
The Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the 17th National Sports Festival (NSF), Engr Tele Ikuru, has advised volunteers for the games to show commitment and be good ambassadors during the games.
Engr. Ikuru, who is also the deputy governor of the state gave the advice while addressing volunteers during a one day orientation exercise organised by the LOC at the weekend, in Port Harcourt.
The deputy governor, who was represented by the vice chairman of the LOC and the immediate past commissioner for sports in the state, Boma Iyaye, expressed satisfaction and excitement over the enthusiasm and huge turn out of volunteers for the games.
He described the volunteer job as a selfless service and which must come from the heart, “it means that you have decided to serve your state,” he said.
“I know that before you volunteered yourselves, you attached so much importance to the sports fiesta, that shows that you want us to succeed. “That shows that you are part and parcel of this games.
As a volunteer, you must show commitment and good conduct,” Iyaye said.
Iyaye further advised the volunteers to eschew violence and be friendly with all, especially, the visitors.
Speaking in an interview, the Chairman of the sub-Committee on Volunteers Service, Hon Legborsi Nwidada said that the committee had recruited 1,300 volunteers to enable them achieve their objectives.
According to him, the reason for the orientation was for the volunteers to know their job description.
