The Rivers State Scholarship Board says it has spent about N1.4 billion for various scholarship programmes for Rivers indigenes since its inauguration in 2007.

The Chairman of the Board, Dr Elechi Amadi made this known while presenting cheques to 1,550 undergraduates, masters and doctorate students who benefited in the second batch of the scholarship.

Represented by the Secretary of the Board, Mr Sam N. Deekue, Elechi Amadi lauded the gesture of Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi in promoting education in the state.

Amadi who noted that the scholarship was the highest ever recorded since its inception thanked Governor Amaechi for living up to his promise in the education sector, describing his support as second to none.

He enjoined the beneficiaries to appreciate the gesture of Governor Amaechi by studying hard as well as shun all negative tendencies that would hinder their lives.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Chief Mike Nwielaghi from Khana Local Government Area and Ere Peter Janet from Ahoada-East Local Government Area lauded the state governor for the award devoid of ethnic and political affiliations, urging him to maintain his laudable objectives in the education  sector.
