The Rivers State Government has assured medical doctors on housemanship at the  Braithwaithe Memorial Specialist Hospital (BMSH) of the payment of their 70% consolidated medical salary scheme.

The Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Hon George Feyii gave the assurance in Port Harcourt, yesterday while addressing the doctors during a peaceful protest at  Government House Port Harcourt.

The SSG said the Ministry of Health was working  hard to ensure that the new salary structure is paid to the doctors.

He said a submission is made by the Ministry of Health to reflect the doctors entitlement of 70%, and that would be completed within two weeks.

Feyii appealed to the doctors not to abandon their duty posts, as  that will put the lives of people at risk.

He said the state government was committed to the welfare of medical workers in the state, and  civil servants generally.

Earlier, the leader of the protesting doctors, Dr Sokari Onyedaba had told newsmen that they want to be included in the consolidated medical salary scheme.

He said they were in Government House to register their discontent over their exclusion from the salary scheme.

The doctors have resolved to resume work today.
