Rotary Plans To Exceed $1.2bn On Polio Eradication

The Rotary Foundation, an arm of the Rotary International, has pledged to exceed its 1.2 billion dollars contributions towards global polio eradication programme.

This was made available to newsmen at a membership development seminar organised by the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt, GRA for new and old members at the weekend in Port Harcourt.

According to the club, the programmes include activities that directly support the eradication of polio, which involve support to national immunisation exercise, tracking the virus through surveillance programmes and vaccination of vulnerable children in difficult places.

In her lecture entitled “Rotary Policies and  Procedures, the assistant Governor, Zone Four, District 9140, Rotarian Ijeoma Okoro listed the qualities of a Rotarian to include love, dedication, honesty and passion for volunteerism.

She also said that a Rotarian must be ready to part with what he has for the development of humanity.

In his lecture, the assistant governor Zone 22, Rotarian Tom Sogules said that it beholves on members to adhere to the laid down principles of the club which are the development of friendship and understanding among business and professional leaders in the community, the  promotion of ethical standards in professional practice and the advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace at all levels of the society.

For Rotarian Ayeowueke Soye Opuiyo, a member of the  Rotary Club of Port Harcourt, GRA, the club had done so much in the areas of healthcare programmes for humanity, support for education and the alleviation of poverty.

Rotarian Opuiyo who spoke on the topic, “the Rotary Foundation has its programme said that the foundation had approved series of programmes to improve the fortunes of both members and non- members.

Some of these are the  Group Study Exchange (GSE) programme, Districk Simplified grants, matching grants, polio plus and polio plus partners and urged for commitment by members.
