Rivers State To Deliver World Class Festival– LOC Chairman
The Rivers State Government, has said that the nascent 17th National Sports Festival (NSF), tagged Garden City Games 2011 has the prospect of repositioning the nation for greatness.
The Deputy Governor and chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Engr Tele Ikuru who said this at a fundraising dinner for the fiesta at the weekend, also restated the commitment of the state government to treat guests and participants to a world class festival.
Engr. Ikuru said that the festival was not only the second one to be hosted by at the state, but one that was coming at a time the nation was celebrating its golden anniversary.
He, however, stated that the private sector had a big role to play in the overall success of the event, pointing out that it was incumbent on the private sector to key into the various aspects of the games to ensure its overall success.
In her speech, the Secretary of the Main Organising Committee, Alhaji Abba Yola expressed optimism that the fiesta would turn out to be the best, especially with the introduction of innovations such as accreditation and marketing.
Alhaji Yola also said that the committee was happy with the state government over the provision of accommodation at the games village to all the athletes and their contingents from all the states also commended the media committee for doing a good job.
Earlier, the chairman of the sub-marketing committee for the festival, Elder Amabipi Martins said that the dinner was to arouse the consciousness of the private sector towards sports development.
