Worried by the resurgence of kidnapping and sundry crimes in Aba, Abia, the police and tricycle operators have adopted measures to check the trend.

The groups insist that all tricycle operators in the city would carry bold security numbers.

Chief Iheasimuo Nwaogu, Chairman of Abia State Amalgamated Tricycle Operators Association (ASATOA) made this known on Monday in Aba while addressing members at a meeting with Aba Area Police Commander, Mr. Rabiu Dayi.

There has been public outcry in recent time following the resurgence of kidnapping, child theft and other crimes in the city.

Nwaogu said with the new measure, every tricycle operating in Aba and its environs would carry a security number boldly written in front and at the back for easy identification by the police and other security agencies.

He said although bad elements had joined the tricycle business, the association and the police were determined to check them.

“From what has been happening lately, there is no doubt that we now have some bad eggs amongst us, but we are collaborating with the police to checkmate them,” he said.

Nwaogu, who was elected into the Abia state House of Assembly to represent Aba South constituency, urged the members to be law-abiding and operate with relevant papers.

Some of the members told newsmen that apart from the police, other persons in uniform harassed and extorted money from them and called on the authorities to check such persons.
