NDDC Donates Fishing Gears To Fishermen

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has donated fishing gears to 34 cooperative groups in Rivers State.

Making the donation recently in Port Harcourt the commissioner representing Rivers State on the board of the commission, Engr Georgewill Emanule appealed to the beneficiaries to see the gesture as an opportunity to enhance their livelihood.

He warned them against selling the fishing gears, assuring that other empowerment and human capacity development programmes of the commission were yielding dividends.

“Each time in see determined individuals or groups committed to self-improvement, it gives me the motivation and zeal to plough harder,” he said.

Georgewill however charged the beneficiaries to ensure that their “families, communities and Rivers people derive benefits from the fishing gear”, noting it was a way of encouraging the NDDC to do more for people and groups”.

Responding, Mr Hezekiah Owubokiri of Hossama Okuru Investment and Credit Co-operative Society Limited who spoke on behalf of the group promised that the fishing gears would be put into proper use.

He commended the efforts of the commission, saying that “with such encouragement, the groups would not have any excuse not to succeed.

The fishing gears include a speed boat with 40 horsepower engine, nets of various sizes and coolers.
