Murder:Court Remands Traditional Ruler

A Port Harcourt Chief Magistrate Court has remanded a traditional ruler in prison custody for allegedly murder of one Ojiekachi Onyejindu.

Chief Emmanuel Obodo 65 and Mr Ejike Urah, 49 are standing trial on a two count charges of shooting and murder.

The Police Prosecuting Officer, Sergeant Wilberforce Ochogwu told the court that Chief Emmanuel Obodo, Ejike Uriah and others now at large, on the June 12, 2011 at Okoma 1 Ahaoda, in the Port Harcourt magisterial district did conspire among themselves to shoot and kill Ojiekachi Onyejindu with gun.

The offence, he said, is purnishable under sections 324 and 319(1) of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Laws of Rivers State 1999.

In his ruling, the trial chief magistrate Odiki Daniel Kalio ordered that the accused be remanded in prison and that the case file be forwarded to the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.
