Kano Farmers To Get N772.5m Fertilisers
Kano State Government promised to buy 10,000 tonnes of fertilizers for distribution to farmers during the 2011 cropping season, the Senior Special Assistant on Press and Public Relations to the Governor, Alhaji .Umar Tudun-Wada, has said.
Tudun-Wada said in a statement in Kano, that the decision was taken at the maiden meeting of the state Executive Council, chaired by Gov. Rabi’u Kwankwaso.
He said, N772.5 million would be spent on the purchase of the fertilisers, out of which N630 million would be used to buy 8,000 tonnes of the NPK brand of the commodity.
The statement also said that N142.5 million would be used to buy 2,000 tonnes of the Urea type, adding that the commodity would be sourced locally and sold to farmers at subsidised rates “as early as possible”.
Tudun-Wada stated that the present administration in the state did not inherit any stock of fertilisers from its predecessor but would do everything possible to buy the commodity and distribute to farmers in good time.
“You may recall that the governor had said that the new administration did not inherit a single bag of fertiliser from the last administration and that is why the state executive council promptly approved the procurement of the commodity.’’
