Group Distributes 3000 Mosquito Nets To Rivers Communities

The Canaan Peace, Women and Community Development Initiative (CAPWOCOD), says it has distributed 3,000 mosquitoes treated nets to three communities in three local government area of Rivers State.

The communities that benefited from the programme were Beeri in Khana Local Government Area, Gbe in Gokana and Rumuodara in Obio/Akpor Local Governemnt Areas respectively.

The Executive Director of the organisation, Mrs. Christy Iwezor, who distributed the nets to the various communities said that malaria has constituted big burden on the health of Nigerians.

“Malaria disease is without boarders and so as a deadly disease and epidemic with its associated financial losses, deaths, crippling social and economic developments annually, she said.

She said that the campaign was aimed at enlightening the people to fight malaria together for an effective result.

The Director stressed the need for the beneficiaries to make best use of the nets by sleeping under it regularly, avoid planting of plantains and banana near residential buildings destroy all mosquitoes breeding sites as well as ensure that pregnant women attend ante-natal care regularly.
