EPCL Employs 650 Nigerians
In line with Federal Government’s Local Content Act, the Eleme Petrochemicals Company Limited (EPCL) has employed 650 Nigerians with 12 among them at the managerial level.
The company’s Finance Director, Munish Jindal, who made the disclosure at the just-concluded Port Harcourt International Oil and Gas (PHIOG) Conference and Exhibition in Port Harcourt, said aside the 650 Nigerians currently at the company’s employ since the Indorama Group took over the petrochemicals plant, 600 others have been employed by contractors working for the company.
He also revealed that EPCL was producing at full capacity with a daily production of 350 tonnes of polymer resins, adding that this has helped the company meet the supply of most of the raw materials needed by manufacturers in the country, including the markets of 20 others countries.
Jindal also revealed that there are plans to raise N280.075billion ($1.8 billion) to enable it diversify into the production of fertiliser and methanol.
His words; “EPCL produces polyethylene and polypropylene (polymer resins) used for the manufacturing of plastics and plastic-based products.
“As part of its social responsibility to its six host communities, EPCL has signed and implemented two MoUs on employment and development projects for host communities”.
The company’s finance boss said since the privatization of EPCL, the company has saved N202.276 billion ($1.3 billion) foreign exchange for the country through import substitution.
