The Cross River contingent of 290 athletes and 50 officials have resumed closed camp in preparation for the 17th National Sports Festival (NSF)  in Port Harcourt, an official has said.

Jude Amadi, the Director of Sports, told newsmenin Calabar on Wednesday that the contingent included 79 female athletes.

“We cannot say exactly the number we will take to Port Harcourt because many factors will come to play at the final selection.

“They will be camped at the U. J. Esuene Stadium hostel. The camp will end on June 27 when we will depart for the Games Village in Port Harcourt,’’ he said.

Amadi disclosed that the state would participate in 14 individual sports, which include track and field, badminton, boxing, chess and judo.

Others are para-weightlifting, swimming, table tennis, traditional wrestling, tennis and Abula, a team sport.

Head Coach, Weightlifting, Magnus Okon, said that the state had the capacity to win six gold medals in the event.

“We will be fielding five lifters in five weight categories in the event.

“We will compete in the 56kg; 62kg; 69kg; 77kg and 85kg. We expect nothing short of at least six gold medals,’’ he said.
