Cleric Urges FG To Rename Port Harcourt Airport
A renowned man of God and elder statesman in Rivers State, Evangelist Sokari Soberekon, has renewed his call for the renaming of the Port Harcourt International Airport after the late Melford Okilo, former governor of the old Rivers State.
Evangelist Soberekon who is the General Overseer of Christ Jesus Link Gospel Publishers Church, Port Harcourt said that by renaming the airport after the late Okilo, the Rivers and federal lawmakers will be immortalising the memory of the late elder statesman who had done so much towards the development of the Niger Delta.
The man who was among the architects of the derivation principle for the Niger Delta region also urged for a programme that would empower youths in the state.
According to him, the Rivers State Government needs to develop a micro credit loan scheme for youths of voting age.
He said that the scheme will not only improve the economic condition of the Rivers man, but will check the rest of crime and youths restiveness in the state.
Evangelist Soberekon further stressed the need for the security agencies to step up their efforts to check criminality in the society noting that the rate of crime in the society needs to be checked.
The clergy man also stressed the need for the equitable distribution of resources to enable the people feel the impact of governance.
Evangelist Soberekon further commended the state governor for his numerous infrastructural projects in the state and urged for it to be extended to all parts of the state.
