28 States Begin Battle For Golf Medals
As competition for medals at the 17th National Sports Festival, Garden City Games 2011 began yesterday at various venues, about 28 out of the 36 participating states are battling for medals in the golf event at the Port Harcourt Club 1928’s golf course.
Tidesports gathered that players in different categories of the event will play over 36 holes to determine eventual medal winners.
Meanwhile, officiating officials were seen on ground ensuring that everything was in place for a hitch-free competition.
Also at the Port Harcourt Club, Darts and Tennis have commenced after the meetings of the technical committees of the events, yesterday. Speaking to Tidesports in an interview, the chief coach of Darts in Rivers State, Chief Anthony Akanfe said that his athletes would win handsomely in the event.
He expects to secure a good number of medals that would contribute effectively to the states desire to win the festival.
According to him, “the players are in top shape and raring to go”.
