‘RSG Did Not Abandon School Projects’
Rivers State government has debunked insinuations that some modern primary school projects being constructed in the 23 local government areas of the state have been abandoned.
The State Commissioner of Education, Barrister, who made the clarification in an exclusive interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt last Tuesday explained that there were instances where some contractors had some structural amendments to make on some of the projects.
“According to her, some of the bottlenecks the contractors encountered in the construction of the projects was caused by delay by the banks in releasing their money.
She however disclosed that there were occasions when few contractors were not on sites arguing that such situation could not be termed as outright abandonment of project.
The commissioner further explained that the ministry was making efforts on how to take over those few projects from the contractors to ensure their completion.
She expressed satisfaction over the performance of some contractors executing the projects, adding that “some have performed very greatly and deserved commendation.”
Barrister Alice told The Tide that over 980 model primary schools embarked upon by the state government had been completed, adding that such achievements were a plus on the present administration in the state.
She therefore appealed to the people of the state be patient with the state government as regards to the model primary school projects, assuring that the state government would deliver her promises in the area of education development in the state.
