Support PDP, Amaechi Tells Rivers People
Rivers State Governor,. Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has urged the people to vote massively for all candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state during the local government elections scheduled for tomorrow.
Governor Amaechi gave the charge yesterday at the party’s campaign and flags presentation to the 21 local government chairmanship candidates at the Alfred Diete-Spiff Sports Complex, Port Harcourt.
Represented by his deputy, Engr. Tele Ikuru, Governor Amaechi thanked Rivers people for voting massively for the PDP during the just concluded general elections, urging the people to still support the PDP in the grassroots elections in order to bring the dividends of democracy to their houses.
The Governor congratulated all those who won the primaries and presented them with the party’s flags, charging all party faithfuls to go back to their wards, units, villages and towns to convince their people to remain steadfast in their support of the party.
Speaking earlier, the State Chairman of the PDP, Chief Godspower Ake called on the people of the state not to give their votes to any other party than the PDP, as the only political party that will safeguard their interest.
He said by giving the PDP the highest number of votes during the last presidential elections, the people of the State had demonstrated that they had faith in the ability of the party to impact on their well being.
In her remarks, the State Woman Leader, Mrs. Justina Emereji thanked the party for giving women a space to be part of its national success movement.
Also speaking, the State Organising Secretary of the Party, Mr. Rutherford Long-John thanked all party faithfuls for conducting the local government primaries without acrimony and bitterness, charging them to ensure that the party came out victorious in tomorrow’s elections.
Others who spoke at the rally include Prince Agoko Agolia, Vice-Chairman, Rivers South-West, the State Deputy Chairman, Senibo Dagogo Leg-Jack, the Majority Leader in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Chidi Lloyd, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Levi Gogo Charles and the State Secretary, Hon. Adokiye Oruwari.
Flags were presented to 21 local government chairmanship candidates of the party.
