The commencement of the second round of the 2011 Nigerian Premier League competition has again  been moved forward, an official said in Abuja at the weekend.

The acting Executive Secretary of Nigeria Premier League (NPL), Mr  Tunji Babalola, told newsmen that the league’s  second round would begin on May 11.

The NPL board had on May 3, after its 14th sitting in Abuja, fixed May 7 (last Saturday) for the commencement after many postponements.

“The commencement of the Nigerian Premier League’s second stanza has been shifted to accommodate the state finals of the 2011 Federation Cup competition which held at the  weekend.

“The second stanza which would have started at the weekend will now begin on Wednesday, May 11, across the country,” Babalola said.

He said the change in date was necessary because most clubs  participating in the league were also involved in the Federation Cup.

“There was a mistake about the date, whereby we had thought the state finals of the Federation Cup was going to hold on May 14 and May 15.”

Babalola said week 21 matches would now hold between May 14 and May 15 instead of May 11 as earlier scheduled.
