Magistrate Harps On Oath Of Office
Political office holders in the country have been told to take the oath of office seriously to avoid its consequencies.
The Chief Magistrate of Isiokpo Magistrate Court, Mrs Ibiere John gave the advice at Isiokpo, the headquarters of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Rivers State on Tuesday
While administering oath of office on the seven-man care-taker committee members of the council.
Mrs John, expressed dismay that people respect traditional oath taking juju) but have disregarded for government’s oath of office.
According to the magistrate, the government juju which she said is the economic and financial crime commission and the independent corrupt practices commission, would go after public officer holders found wanting in the discharge of their functions.
She, therefore, charged the caretaker members to be above board so as not to disappoint those that appointed them but should prove themselves worthy by doing that which is legal in the discharge of their duties.
Also speaking, the care-taker committee chairman, Hon Soro-Nnadi Amadi, also urged his members to see the appointment as a call to service.
Hon Amadi reminded his members that the appointment could make or mar them, adding that their appointments was an act of God.
According to him, the appointees were not the best in the area, pointing out that the appointment would prepare them for higher political offices.
