Enugu State To Host Southeast FADAMA
Mrs Amaka Okenwa-Uzoechina, Enugu State Project Coordinator, FADAMA III says Enugu State plans to host the southeast zone National FADAMA Fair in June.
Okenwa-Uzoechina newsmen in Enugu that the agriculture fair would be aimed at showcasing products generated from FADAMA III.
“There, we are going to be showcasing the products of these projects. Our farmers have done so well. We have rice already; FADAMA rice. We have Cassava; FADAMA cassava. We have FADAMA-processed food, packaged and very easy for you to just buy over the
counter.
“What we have been doing? We have not been spending the money the state government gave us and that of the Federal Government and the World Bank gave us in vain.’’
The Project Coordinator said that about N115 million had been distributed to 400 of the 3,920 FADAMA user groups in the state.
According to her, each of the 17 local government areas has no fewer than 100 cooperative FADAMA user groups producing livestock, crops, processed foods, marketing, storage and distribution.
She said FADAMA farmers also engaged in water resources management and distribution for the purposes of agricultural activities.
Okenwa-Uzoechina said that rural women formed 60 per cent of the cooperative farmer groups, while widow groups were given funds for agricultural activities without counterpart funding.
She said that the project was aimed at taking the farmers out of subsistence agriculture and increase their income to make them self-reliant.
