Elections: CD Lauds Police
The Campaign for Democracy (CD) has commended the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Hafiz Ringim, for the exemplary conduct of his officers and men during the 2011 general elections.
The commendation was contained in a statement issued yesterday in Onitsha, Anambra and signed by Mr Uzor Uzor, the Vice-Chairman, South-East.
The statement also noted that there had been a tremendous improvement in the conduct and human relations of the police organisation since Ringim assumed office.
“We want to commend the IG for the reduction in crime wave in the country, especially in the South-East as well as the recent professional conduct of the police in the just-concluded general elections,’’ it said.
The statement added that the police demonstrated professionalism and fairness to all Nigerians during the general elections, especially in the re-scheduled elections as well as the Imo supplementary election.
“The police remained neutral and professional in their conduct during all the elections,’’ it noted.
The statement said that with Ringim in charge, the Nigeria Police would soon be at par with their counterparts in advanced countries “if the needed technological and training support was giving to the organisation’’.
The statement also lauded President Goodluck Jonathan for his non-interference in the electoral process and for allowing INEC to operate independently.
“CD is tasking INEC to improve from its 50 per cent performance to a least 80 per cent in the next general elections,’’ it said.
