Divest-Afrik FC Wins President’s Youth Football Competition

Divest – Afrik Football Club  of Enugu has emerged the overall  winner of the 13th  Edition of the Annual U-20 Nigeria’s President Unity Male Youth Football Competition,  defeating Kaduna Academicals 3-2

The Enugu youth club side, opened  scoring  43 minutes  into the first half through  Obumneme Okeke  one of  the club’s mid- fielders.   Egbuchulam Chisom , got the second and third  goals in the 60th and 75th minutes.

However, on the 68th minute, Peter  Kalu, of  Kaduna Academicals, pulled one goal back for the visiting team,  while his colleague, Uchenna Ali found   the  net again in the  80th  minutes to further reduce the tally.

Players of Kaduna Academicals  really displayed  soccer artistry  and entertained  soccer fans at the Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium,  Enugu, venue of the  competition packaged by the African Youth Soccer Federation  (AYSOF).

In his remarks at the end of the youth soccer fiesta, the host  governor,  Sullivan Chime of Enugu state, hailed  the organisers of the competition for  their  initiative, which according to him, would always afford the young boys  the  opportunity of displaying  their talents.

Represented by the State Commissioner for Youth  and Sports, Hon. Matthew Idu, the governor  stressed the need for  the nation’s soccer  managers to always organise such competitions on regular basis, as it would create opportunity for the harnessing of young talented  players who would replace the aging ones in the nearest future.

He, therefore,   enjoined the young boys to always take football very seriously, noting that  gone were the days when  people only  play the round leather sports just for leisure or entertainment.

“Today you can be whatever you want to be in life through football, because football is now a serious and lucrative business in any part of the world including Nigeria”.

Earlier, the  President AYSOF and chairman main organising committee of the competition, Dr. Ahmed Lawal, had expressed appreciation to the Enugu state government for accepting to host the annual  youth  tournament

Dr Lawal,   however, disclosed that the Enugu state team and winners of the competition, are expected to  represent  Nigeria in the United States(US) president,  world youth championship slated for Florida United states of America in  July this year.
