CLO Lauds Security Agencies Over Polls
The Civil Liberties Organization (CLO), South East Zone , has commended all the security agencies that assisted the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) to ensure that the votes of the people of Imo State count without fear or favour in the recently concluded Governorship election in the state.
According to the organization, “the will of the people have prevailed and the people of Imo state have spoken through their votes”.
The CLO also commended the people for their steadfastness and sense of patriotism in protecting their votes for days after voting, urging others from other parts of the country to emulate their example in future elections.
Making their feelings known in a statement issued in Enugu and signed by the South East Zonal Director of CLO, Barrister Olu Omotayo, the CLO also described the Imo State Governorship election as the best ever conducted so far in the South East geo-political zone of the country in recent years.
”The plan by some corrupt politicians in Imo State to rig the election was frustrated by the efforts of the citizens who were not only vigilant, but also insisted that it is their rights that their votes must count. They also alerted the whole world of the plans by some people to deny them their rights by trying to rig the election in favour of a particular candidate”, the statement continued.
“CLO further commended INEC for taking a firm and just decision by cancelling elections conducted in Oguta Local Government Area of the state.
“The recently concluded election in Imo is now a good example for the people of Nigeria and other states in the South East to learn how proper elections should be conducted”.
As a philanthropist, the CLO urged Okorochas to improve on his record when he assumes office, and also strive to respect the rights of the people and allow the rule of law and the observance of the fundamental human rights to flourish in the State.
“We urge him to ensure that he maintains a people oriented government which should focus more on how to empower the masses who are seriously yearning for an improvement in the standard of living of the people of the State”, the organization further stressed.
