30,000 Get SPDC’s Free Medicare In Rivers, Bayelsa
No fewer than 30,000 people in Rivers and Bayelsa states have benefited from the free medical care, programme organised by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC).
This figure which was disclosed by SPDC’s spokesman, Mr. Precious Okolobo said that the programme was part of the outreach health programme tagged “Health in Motion” designed to bring quality healthcare to the reach of people who lived and worked in areas, difficult to access.
The Regional Community Manager of SPDC Dr Babatunde Fakunle said the health programme was aimed at taking healthcare to the people in their places of work and abode rather than the conventional way of having the people leave their residents and work places to attend clinic.
Also speaking, the Public Health Adviser of the company, Dr. A. Fashiola, remarked that the outreach was expected to make a difference in the lives of the people.
It was gathered that SPDC has organised more than 41 health outreaches in 103 communities in the Niger Delta region this year.
