Rivers HOS Cup Postponed To May 23 …Over Death Of Player
The Head of Service Football Cup competition for 2011 has been shifted by one week in honour of a player Mr Sunday Ikpa, who lost his life after the games last Friday.
After an emergency meeting, the Central Planning Committee of the Civil Service Week 2011 directed that matches would resume Monday, May 23, 2011, at the same venue and time.
According to the Committee, a full complement of the medical team would continue to be on ground during all the matches and hoped that players would take it easy as the whole idea was to add colour to the Civil Service Week.
Meanwhile the Central Planning Committee of the 2011 Civil Service Week has condoled the family of late Sunny Ikpa who died shortly after taking part in a football event last Friday.
Speaking during a condolence visit to the family yesterday in Port Harcourt, the Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Dr. George Nwolu, on behalf of the Head of Service and the entire Rivers State Civil Service, expressed heartfelt sympathy with the family over the painful death of their son, husband and father.
He described the late Sunny Ikpa as a friend of all, very popular and lovable, noting that the news of his death came as a rude shock to everyone.
Dr. Nwolu urged the family to take solace in the fact that God, who is the creator of all humans, knew why it happened at this time, and advised them to be courageous and put their trust in God who comforts all in distress.
In their separate speeches, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environment, Mr. Rufus Godwins, his counterpart in the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Mr. Dan Ibubeleye and a Director in the Ministry of Education, Mrs. Cordelia Peterside described the deceased as a colleague and friend whose death was a pain too much to comprehend, urging the family to be strong and focused and put their hope in God.

Rivers Judiciary Denies Issuing Court Order Stopping SOLAD from Swearing in RSCSC Members
The Rivers State Judiciary has denied a media report claiming that Justice Frank Onyiri of the State High Court issued an injunction order restraining the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), from inaugurating the newly appointed members of the Rivers State Civil Service Commission (RSCSC).
In a statement issued by the Deputy Chief Registrar in charge of litigation at the High Court, Menenen Poromon (Esq), the state Judiciary disassociated itself from the report, describing it as malicious and fabricated.
The statement emphasized that the report was a falsehood and a misrepresentation of what transpeared in the court.
Poromon clarified that no such order was issued by Justice Onyiri or any other judge of the High Court of the state and urged the public to disregard the information, as it lacked any iota of truth.
The statement however advised the public to verify any information concerning the state Judiciary directly from the office of the Chief Registrar, High Court of the State, to avoid spreading of misinformation.
