17th NSF: Jonathan Lights Torch In Abuja, Tuesday
President Goodluck Jonathan will on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, light the torch for the 17th National Sports Festival (NSF) tagged “Garden City Games 2011” to mark its journey through the 36 States of the federation’ billed to hold in Port Harcourt on June 26.
Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) and Vice Chairman of the Main Organising Committee (MOC) of the games, Engr Tele Ikuru announced this yesterday while addressing newsmen shortly after the 61st Meeting of the LOC in Port Harcourt.
Engr. Ikuru, who is also the Rivers State Deputy Governor, reiterated that inspite of challenges associated with the preparations for the event, “the June 26 date is still realistic,” stressing that all contractors working on the Adokiye Amiesimaka Sports Complex, venue of the festival, have been charged to double their efforts in order to deliver on the June 26 date.
Represented by the Vice Chairman of the LOC and the State Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Boma Iyaye, the LOC Chairman said the committee had resolved to expedite efforts at ensuring that the festival holds without hitches, assuring that most of the facilities would be ready for the event on schedule.
