RSG Awards Contracts For Abuloma/Okuru-Ama Road
The Rivers State Government says it has awarded contract for the construction of the Abuloma/Okuru-Ama road to ease traffic along the ever busy Amadi-Ama/Abuloma Road.
Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi disclosed this Monday during the second Rivers Youth Forum with the governor at Government House, Port Harcourt
The Governor, who said his administration embarked on the construction of roads and the monorail project to decongest the existing roads by conveying more commuters, noted the state government would continue to address the problems of infrastructure in all parts of the state.
Governor Amaechi lamented the destruction of Okuru-Ama Community before the advent of the present administration, noting that the state government has remained committed to fighting crime to achieve peace.
He noted that the Etche and Ogoni axis have benefited greatly from the state government road projects while the Okrika Ring road abandoned by the previous contractor, was expanded and completed under the present administration.
The governor assured the people of Oyigbo Local Government Area that the state government would revisit the road projects in the area to ensure that the on-going ones are completed and new ones started to enhance free movement.
On the new Greater Port Harcourt City, which the Opposition alleged to be a deceit, the governor challenged anyone to visit the site and see the extent of work on the games village which would be showcased in June 2011 during the National Sports Festivals tagged Garden City Games.
The State Chief Executive, who is also the PDP governorship candidate for the April 26,2011 election, condemned the attitude of the opposition parties for condemning his policies and programmes when they have no alternative idea to the well thought out projects of his government.
The governor urged the people not to vote those that brought criminality and pain to the people and residents of the state for which the present administration worked tirelessly to restore peace, and urged them to avoid taking actions that would take the state into the dark old days ..
The forum, which featured an interactive session, was used by the governor to brief the youths on the current ASUU staff strike in the state and described the strike as uncalled for.
The President, National Youths Council of Nigeria, Mr James Ajani, thanked Governor Amaechi for providing the opportunity for Youths to interact with him and enjoined other governors to emulate the gesture in order to reduce youths’ restiveness.
He said the Nigerian youths have come of age and have demonstrated that by participating in the general elections, adding that with the performance of Governor Amaechi, he would be re-elected for a second term in office.
On their parts, the National President of Ijaw Youths Council, Mr Miabiye Kuromiema and African representative on the World Assembly of Youths, Comrade Marvin Yobana urged Rivers Youths to come out and vote massively for the Governor on the 26th of this month.
