The Clamour for Good Governance and Continuity Initiative (C for C), an NGO, wants security agencies to take urgent measures to contain political violence in Ebonyi.

Mr Hans Offia, the coordinator of the group, told newsmen in Abakaliki on Tuesday that politicians in Ebonyi were not playing the game according to the rules.

“This situation has heat up the polity, resulting in the unleashing of mayhem on political opponents. As I speak to you, the state has witnessed many casualties.

“Some of the victims are lying in the hospitals receiving treatment. Others are in police custody, framed up for one offence or the other. Security operatives should beef up operation in the trouble areas.

“Adequate security in the state would ensure peaceful elections,” he added.

The group called on INEC to address the lapses recorded in the botched April 2 National Assembly elections, especially in the area of late arrival of materials.

Offia, however, appealed to the electorate to bear the inconveniences and economic losses they suffered as a result of the postponement of the April 2 election.

He advised Nigerians to come out en masse to vote for candidates of their choice in all the elections, saying “this is the sacrifice we have to pay to sustain our democracy.”
