Election Timetable Affects B’ball Premier League
The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has postponed matches in the DSTV Men’s Basketball Premier League on each day of election this month.
DSTV League Director Agboola Pinheiro said at the weekend that such matches would be played on the following Monday and Tuesday after the elections.
National Assembly, Presidential and Gubernatorial as well as House of Assembly elections have been scheduled to hold on April 9, April 16 and April 26 respectively.
“We don’t want our league to suffer any setback this year even though we will not like to disrupt the national elections, so I think the adjustment is very important,’’ Pinheiro said.
The men’s league which is in its ninth week has so far featured 32 matches involving eight clubs in the Atlantic Conference.
Matches scheduled for last Saturday between Chariots of Lagos and Police Baton of Lagos State Police Command was shifted to Sunday.
Also played at the weekend was the game between Dodan Warriors and city rivals Ebun Comets.
The matches between Royal Hoppers of Port Harcourt and Union Bank of Lagos and Royal Hoopers versus Delta Force of Asaba were shifted from Sunday to Monday and yesterday respectively.
Ebun Comets of Lagos are topping the league table with 16 points from nine matches, winning seven and losing two.
Union Bank and Royal Hoopers are second and third respectively with 14 points each.
