CAF Champions League: Enyimba Owes Victory To Fans

Enyimba International FC on Sunday came back from the brink against Union Sportive of Bitam, Gabon in Aba to remain Nigeria’s only presence in the 2011 CAF Champions League.

The Peoples Elephant after securing a goalless first leg away result went behind at home in the first half at the weekend only to rebound in the  second half  and grabbed the crucial winner at the death to advance to the third round of the competition.

Strikers, Victor Barnabas got the equaliser midway in the second half and Josiah Maduabuchi bundled in the winner with the last kick of the match.

But Enyimba Chairman, Chief Felix Anyansi Agwu believes that they owe the victory to their home fans.

According to him, the fans were behind the team for the entire game, even when all hopes appeared lost and gave the players the energy to pull the chestnut out of the fire.

‘I give the victory to the fans and all the people that attended the match on Sunday. Most times, in a difficult situation like this, your fans turn against you, but today, the fans kept the faith with the team.

It was a bad day for us , but I am happy that at the end we won and that’s most important”, said the chairman.

US Bitam was more solid than Enyimba in the game as they attacked and defended enmasse and was unlucky not to have scored more than once.

Enyimba on their part created and wasted so many chances to keep themselves on the edge throughout.

But Anyansi promised that the team would make amends after surviving the hardest game the team has played so far this season.
