SWAN Wants Sports Facilities In States

The National Executive members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has appealed to all state governors in the Federation without a stadium and playing ground to provide the facilities to enable youths in their state showcase their  talents.

This was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Jalingo. Taraba State at the weekend and signed by Chukwuleta Chigozie and Justice Udousoro, JP national treasure and chairman of communiqué drafting committee, respectively.

The communiqe also frowned at the incessant postponements of the National Sports Festival calling on the National Sports Commission (NSL) to subsequently ensure that only states that are adequately prepared are given the right to host the biennial event.

“SWAN is saddened at the incessant postponement of National Sports Festival and the practice of hosting it outside the time table and urged the NSC to ensure that only prepared states  are chosen with stand-by states available”, the statement said.

The NEC commended the Chief Coach of Nigeria Super Eagles, Samson Siasia for giving an opportunity to home based league players in the national team, adding that Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) should support the coach to achieve his set goals.

They used the forum to condole the families of late ex International Uche Okafor and veteran sports journalist, Mazi Njoku and prayed God to give the families the fortitude to bear the losses.
