FG Harps On Agric Driven Economy
President Goodluck Jonathan says government will lay emphasis on agriculture and industrilisation with a view to placing Nigeria on a higher pedestal.
He said that the two sectors remained critical to Nigeria’s economic advancement and capable of empowering youths to create wealth.
“If we must generate jobs for our youth and create wealth, Nigeria must concentrate farming and industrialisation and that is why we are doing everything to revive the industries.
“Money is being made available for industrialisation and farmers to access.
“For us to industrialise and do mechanised farming, there must be commitment to assist the power sector”, he said.
The president also said that priority would be given to irrigation projects to boost farming across Nigeria.
Assuring that government would ensure speedy completion of two irrigation projects in Kwara, to fast track agricultural revolution in the state.
“We cannot depend only on rainfall for agriculture to produce crops that will be commercially viable and create wealth; we must build dams and get water for irrigation”, he added.
He noted that the state’s achievement in agriculture was worthy of emulation by other states and said the government would promote unity of the nation and the people’s well-being, irrespective of religion, tribe or other mundane considerations.
He also reiterated his commitment to conducting free elections.
In his remarks, Emir of Ilorin, Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, lauded the administration of Jonathan and declared his support for his aspiration.
