Ebonyi Donates 10 Vehicles To Police
The Ebonyi Government on Tuesday donated 10 security vans to the state Police Command to assist it in securing lives and property in the area.
Governor Martin Elechi, while presenting the vans to the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Dipo Ayeni, in Abakaiki, said the donation was in fulfilment of government’s promise to the command.
He explained that during the protracted Ezzai Ezillo communal crisis, the command made a request for assistance in logistical support, and government promised to provide it with 40 patrol vans.
Elechi said government could only afford 10 vans due to paucity of fund, and promised to donate more when its resources improved.
He said it was regrettable that some police patrol vans and those provided by the government from some of its ministries were destroyed during the crisis.
Elechi said government had already replaced five of the vans for the affected ministries, and would also replace the others when its resources improved .
He urged the command to ensure that the vehicles were effectively used to guarantee safety of lives in the state.
Responding, Ayeni thanked the governor for the gesture and promised to ensure judicious use of the vehicles.
