Stakeholders Hail NNPC/Chevron Malaria Programme
Stakeholders in Rivers State have commended the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC/Chevron Joint Venture for its social responsibility to the people and communities where it operates in the Niger Delta, especially through its health programmes.
The Rivers State Government, represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr Sampson Parker gave the commendation at Abonnema headquarters of Akuku Toru Local Government Area, at the Roll Back Malaria Programme organised by Chevron, in partnership with Hope and Care Foundation.
The commissioner who spoke through Dr Claribel Abam, Director, Disease Control in the State Ministry of Health, said developmental activities were not the excluive preserve of government but a joint responsibility of all citizens, including corporate citizens.
Dr Parker noted that malaria was one of the commonest diseases encouraged by the swampy nature of the Niger Delta, and thanked the NNPC/Chevron Joint Venture for partnering with the governments in addressing some of the health needs of the people of AKULGA.
In his remark, the chairman of Akuku Toru Local Government, Hon Paul Awoyesuku thanked the NNPC/Chevron Joint Venture for choosing the local government as a beneficiary of the Roll Back Malaria Programme in the state.
Represented by the Vice Chairman of the local government, Hon Mrs Ekenta Alalibo, the chairman was happy that the company had always responded to the yearnings and aspirations of the people of the local government, especially Idama and Kula neighbouring its operations in the state.
Also speaking, a community leader in AKULGA, Chief Broadfield Jack commended the company for deploying, the Roll Back Malaria Programme in the area and encouraged the people to avail themselves of the company’s gesture.
Earlier in his address, the General Manager Policy, Government and Public Affairs (PGPA) Engr Femi Odumabo stated that the company was partnering with the state government and others on the Roll Back Malaria programme as part of its commitment to solving the health needs of the people.
The project manager, Hope and Care Foundation also thanked NNPC/Chevron Joint Venture for sponsoring the Roll Back Malaria Programme, and advised the health workers to ensure that the materials were properly distributed to the beneficiaries.
