Rivers ICT Managers Warn Against Computer Viruses

The greatest threats to computer files held on any system that has access to the outside world via the internet, has been attributed to the threat of virus infection.

Two principal officers in the Rivers State ICT Training Centre, Nancy Stephens and Chigozirim Ekennia, said that most viruses are computer programmes that automatically copy themselves so that they can “infect other disks, flash drives, e-mail boxes and programmes without the user’s knowledge.

The duo explained that they were capable of disrupting the operation of the computer, or of a whole system.

According to them, a virus can be sent via the internet to any number of computers.

They informed that the computer virus  as like the biological virus that reproducers itself adding that a properly engineered virus can have a devastating  effect, disrupting productivity and doing billions of naira worth of damage.

The Rivers State ICT Managers, explained that the viruses are often spread through other programmes, saying that can also come through attachments in e-mails.

Stephens and Ekennia, explained that it is proper in some public places like the Rivers State Secretariat  environment, to protect the entire information technology infrastructure due to its vital nature.

They declared that computers are better protected with regards to anti virus, ant syp wane etc.

Earlier, they had advised that computers be scanned after undergoing repairs to avoid virus introduction.
