A chieftain of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Mr. Jonathan Elendu, has called for the resignation of the National Chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Akande.

Elendu who was the Director of Media for  Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa  presidential campaign  organisation the just concluded primaries of ACN made the call during a media briefing  in Port Harcourt.

He explained that his reason for seeking the  resignation of Akande was to save the party from imminent extinction, adding, “a lot of members of ACN  are very unhappy on the way and manner the leadership of the party conducted the presidential primary in Lagos”

According to him, it was sad for the leadership to have forced other  presidential aspirants to withdraw in an undemocratic manner, just to pave way for Mallam Nuhu Ribadu”.

He said the only reason for the action was that the party wanted a generational shift in  its choice for a younger candidate.

Elendu argued that if age was the only credential required in Nigerian politics,  it was normal for the National Chairman to quit the stage, adding that it was normal for a much younger person to take over.

“Ribadu is just 51 years, and Bafarawa is 56 years. For Akande  to anchor disqualification of aspirants on the  ground of age  means that we  should be  led by example by quitting his position as the National chairman.

Elendu noted that as first Nigerian to delve into online media reporting said his concern on the  matter was to ensure that his  party respects the principle of transparency in the  conduct of its affairs.

He observed that the present political arrangement whereby people were checked to jettison their aspirations if not check  would affect the growth of democracy.
