Owumi Loses In Court
Davidson Owumi suffered a setback in his attempt to reclaim his seat as Nigeria Premier League, NPL chairman when a Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday dismissed his application to upturn his removal as chairman of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Justice Okechukwu Okeke ruled that Owumi’s motion lacked merit.
“He cannot through the back door file a motion to challenge his removal from office when he does not have a substantive claim or counter-claim before this court.
“In my final analysis, it is my view that the motion is devoid of merit and same is hereby dismissed,” Justice Okeke said.
Owumi had taken his grievance to court when the NFF announced, shortly after its Annual General Assembly on December 29, that he had been removed from office on the basis of the recommendation of an arbitration panel set up by the NFF.
