Governor Ikedi Ohakim of Imo has warned contractors executing the 1,500 small scale development projects in the state to complete them within 40 days or have them revoked.

The Governor handed down the warning at a meeting with the contractors at the Government House, Owerri.

He expressed disappointment with the slow pace of work by some of the contractors, saying some of them had no signboard at their project sites.

The governor described the projects as “experimental and innovative,” noting that they were aimed at upgrading schools and reducing poverty in the state.

To give a sense of belonging to the beneficiaries of the projects, he said government had allowed the communities to hire contractors from within the localities while providing funds and technical advice.

Responding on behalf of the contractors, Chief Zeek-Martins Nnadozie, said his colleagues must show appreciation to government by executing the projects according to specifications.

He urged his colleagues not to force government into revoking the contracts.

Tide’s source reports that the contracts included the construction and renovation of schools as well as sinking of bore holes.
