OBALGA Council Goes Offensive On Property Owners

The Obi/Akpor Local Government Council has descend heavily on some property owners in the Rumuekini community of Akpor  kingdom as demolition of properties in the area.

The Tide reliably gathered that the demolition order which was given, and surpervised by the council chairman, Hon. Timothy Nsirim, did not give way prior notice to the property owners.

Victims of the demolition exercise whose properties are situated  along the Rumuekii-Aliw Road where the Obio/Akpor council also has properties alleged that the exercise was an act against the rule of law, since they were not communicated, before carrying out such exercise  one of the victims, Cyril Womanti who spoke to The Tide on the issue said that  they have the right to be contacted and harmonise issues where there is conflict of interest, adding that they have documents relating to their properties and wondered why their fences should be pulled down.

He said that their properties are closer to the road, while the Obio/Akpor council property is behind, and opnined that owners of the properties closer to the road would have been contacted, rather than resorting to the use of force to demolishing their properties.

Cyril stated “I  wonder what the intention may be for the council to destroy our properties without following due process. I will not fight anybody,  but if they want to buy my property, let them pay  me after negotiation than   to resort to force.

Efforts by our reporter to hear from the Obio/Akpor council chairman proved abortive as he was said to be out on official engagements, but the press secretary to the council, Mr. Vincent Wagbara, told The Tide that the matter is now before  the Ogbakor Ikwerre leaders.
