The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has commended the Rivers State Government over the memorial  lecture in honour of the late Professor Claude Ake.

The state Director of the Agency Mr. Andy Nweye who said this while reacting to the lecture scheduled to hold today, in an interview with The Tide in his office in Port Harcourt, said the lecture is timely as the event will help to reduce the present tension caused by the recent stampede in Port Harcourt.

Mr. Nweye said that the late Professor of political economy deserves the honour inview of his contributions to the development of the society.

He described the professor as a man of integrity, whose literary work has continued to reverberate across the Niger Delta.

“Ake was a distinct persons, a professor of political economy, collossus and a literary giant,” he said.

The NOA Director, however, stressed the need for the government to extend the gesture to other indigenes of the state who have also excelled in their various fields of endeavour.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nweye also used the opportunity to laud the over two million voters registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Rivers State.

According to him, the number has shown that Rivers State still maintains its leading position as the most populous state in the Niger Delta.
