How I Survived The Stampede – Survivor
One of the survivors of last Saturday’s stampede at the Liberation Stadium, Mr Ibilla Young Anni has narrated how he survived the stampede tragedy that claimed 11 lives.
Young Anni who is the chairman of the Artisan Fishermen Association of Rivers State said it was by the grace of God that he survived the incident.
In an interview with The Tide, however, he regretted that his sister, Mrs Trust George Anni, a 65-year mother of six could not survive the incident as she died immediately.
In an emotion-laden voice, he said he was among those pushed down by the surging crowd while trying to come out of the stadium, but he struggled to regain standing position..
We went for the PDP South-South campaign rally and at the end, as we were coming out from the stadium, the crowd pushed and we fell down. They trampled on us but I was lucky to get up and my sister was not lucky enough as she was trampled to death”, he said.
Ibilla Young Anni, who is also the chairman of United Marine Traders Association noted , however, that since the incident, he had not been able to set his eyes on his sister’s corpse.
Describing the incident as not an ordinary one, he called on the state government to come to the aid of both survivors and families of those who died on the tragic event .
Also speaking, one, Mr Kelechi Igoboye, who claimed to have witnessed the incident a probe into the matter would unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
