Group Threatens Suit Against Customs Reform Panel
Founder of National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Dr Boniface Aniebonam, says the association will seek court’s clarification on the status of Presidential Committee on Customs Reform.
Aniebonam said in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos that the association would file a suit at the Federal High Court to determine which organisation was also funding the committee.
He said that the association would first seek some clarifications from the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on the issues before going to court.
The Customs Reform Committee was inaugurated in 2010 by the Federal Government.
Aniebonam said that the NCS had some lingering problems caused by the introduction of external persons to head the organisation, which he described as “highly technical organisation”.
He recalled that the service had some problems with a recruitment exercise in 1988 and the promotion of some officers in 2004.
The freight forwarder urged officers and men of the service to fully co-operate with the Comptroller-General, Alhaji Dikko Abdullahi, to restore professionalism to the service.
