Four Fake Revenue Agents Nabbed In Anambra
Anambra State Government has arrested four fake revenue agents who used governmet receipts to commit fraud around the state.
With three of the suspects being women, the suspects were arrested last Thursday, in Onitsha and Ekwulobia respectively.
Parading the suspects at the Government House in Awka, the Chairman, Committee on Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) Ekeka Sibeudu said the emblems, receipts and stamps found with the fake agents had no government security seal.
Sibendu who is also the Deputy Governor, Anambra State disclosed that the state government had been fighting against such crimes using different measures adding that the suspects would be used as an example to others who may be contemplating or ven in the game.
In his words “I have with me several receipts, emblems, stamps, airport permits and consolidated revenue receipts found on the fake agents. Some of the Material bearing names of Lagos, Abia, Imo and Delta State as well as those receipts issued to them by the Ministry of Environment and Anaocha Local Government Area. These receipts are not real and these persons will be made to face the law.
Sibendu assured of government’s commitment to eradicate fake revenue agents and improve the state’s revenue profile.
Meanwhile, the suspected revenue agents, Nweke Ezeoke, Chimnwa Okoye, Chekwube Nwosu and Malachy Ezeigweneme had accused a woman (names withheld) as the supplier of the fake revenue materials.
Senior special Assistant to the governor on IGR, Mrs Victori Obinwa while handing the suspects over to the police promised to stop revenue leakages in the state.
