Enugu Approves Reconstruction Of Roads
The Enugu State Executive Council has approved award of contracts worth over two billion naira for the reconstruction of two major roads in the state.
The roads are the 8 km Nara – Isiogbo road and Amaechi-Obeagu-Amodu-Umueze 12 km road.
The state Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Chuks Ugwoke, disclosed this while addressing newsmen at the end of the State Executive Council meeting presided over by the state governor, Barrister Sullivan Chime.
The commissioner, said the Nara-Isiogbo road contract was awarded to Greylines International Limited at the contract sum of N958,036,398.40 while that of Amaechi-Obeagu-Amodu-Umueze road was awarded to Arab Contractors Nigeria Limited at the total cost of N1,535,082,263.72
According to him, the contract scope would cover the rehabilitation of Nyama Bridge which connects communities in Enugu South/Nkanu West Local Governments which witnessed a washout in 2009. He said the move was keeping with Governor Chime’s commitment to open up rural areas.
He also said that the council approved the strategic planning and design of enterprise Geographic Information System (GIS), which will help in the running of government, especially in the areas of revenue generation and database.
Mr. Ugwoke said government was committed in improving productivity, value-for-money and enhancement of revenue generation, hence the council has approved the creation of two departments, Architecture and Quantity Surveying in the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure in place of the existing Public Building Department.
He said that Governor Chime, however, thanked the good people of Enugu State for coming out en-masse and for their peaceful conduct during the South East Zonal PDP Presidential campaign rally in the state.
The commissioner also used the forum to express immense gratitude to president Goodluck Jonathan and his Vice Namadi Sambo, the members of the National Working Committee of PDP and other leaders of the party for their esteemed presence at the rally which he described as huge success graced by people from different walks of life from the South East and beyond.
