CPI Wants Regular Sports Programmes

A Niger Delta based non-governmental organisation CPI has stressed the need for a regular sports programme that will check restiveness in the Niger Delta.

The Executive Director of the organisation, Mr Sylvester Okoduwa said this at a one day seminar on peace building, conflict management, dialogue and resolution, organised by the body in partnership with the Rivers State Community Foundation (RSCF) at Rumuewhara in Obio/Akpor local government area of the state.

Mr Okoduwa said that the workshop which has the theme, “Using Sports To Promote Peace” was part of the efforts to engage the youths of the communities in meaningful ventures.

According to him, apart from the promotion of peace, sports also helps in talent development while acting as a source of employment to the people.

In her lecture entitled “Conflict Management”, Mrs Ifeoma Joy Anozie called for mechanism to check violence in the society.

Mrs Anozie, who is also the Executive Director of Christian Women in Mission, a non-governmental organisation, also stressed the need for honesty among members of the society.

Also speaking, Pastor Evelyn Williams who spoke on leadership, urged those in leadership positions to see themselves as servants of the people, pointing out that it behoves on them to put in place those things that will improve the welfare of their people.
