Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has called on religious leaders in the country to pray for the nation’s survival during this critical period of her history.

Governor Amaechi made the call Monday when the Baba  Aladura of the Eternal Sacred Order of Cherubim and Seraphim  Worldwide, His Eminence, Elder Lazarus Onyeleonu, led a delegation of the church to Government House, Port Harcourt.

Represented by his deputy, Engr. Tele Ikuru, Governor Amaechi said the nation was facing serious challenges at this critical period and needed the prayers of men of God to go through it. He therefore called  on the clergy to uphold the nation in prayers.

“If Nigeria is to survive this critical period of our national life, when we’re going through an election, it would depend on the prayers of the men of God like you”, he observed, adding that the clergy “should pray  that the hand of God would select whoever He wants to rule”.

The state Governor noted that “our society needs prayers, especially our youths. They need to change their orientation.  They need to realize the value of hardwork and service”, acknowledging that the people of Rivers State have seen the “hand of God” in its leadership and transformation.

“We, in Rivers State, have seen the hand of God at work in choosing our leaders and in transforming the state”, he said, pointing out that “we have realised that the success of the administration depends on God”, assuring on the government’s readiness to collaborate with the church in delivering the dividends of democracy.

Earlier, His Eminence, Elder Lazarus Onyeleonu, had told the Governor that his visit to the state was part of a nationwide Episcopal tour of local branches of the church, attributing the growth of the church in the state to the goodwill and cordiality existing between the government and the church.  He expressed the hope that the relationship would continue.

The cleric, who spoke through the General Secretary of the church, Elder Dabaye Bob-Manuel, lauded the policies and programmes of the present administration, even as he urged government to sustain the peaceful atmosphere in the state.
